I heard a word “Tomster” somewhere on the Internet. It doesn’t sound exactly like a name but seems pretty good to me
It is indeed called the Tomster because it looks exactly like @tom and a hamster had a cross-species love child.
Now, I have always thought of the Tomster as a species, not a name. I say “the” Tomster, or “a” Tomster.
